The practice

Positioning is the cheapest lever in marketing and the one most often skipped. A brand that cannot be described in a sentence a customer would repeat spends the rest of its budget compensating for that gap. This practice settles what you stand for before anyone spends on media.

The test we use

Ask six people inside the company what the brand stands for. If you get six answers, no amount of advertising will fix it. Consistency inside the company is the leading indicator of clarity outside it.

Category before proposition

Most Indian brands compete inside a category defined by the market leader, which means they are compared on the leader's terms. Redefining the category is harder and usually the only route to a defensible position for a challenger.

Verbal identity is undervalued

Visual identity gets the budget and the applause. Verbal identity, the actual words used in a sales deck, a store, a call centre and a job advert, is what customers experience. We build both, and we test the verbal one harder.

Architecture decisions are expensive

House of brands versus branded house is a decision that costs money for a decade. It gets made properly here, with the acquisition roadmap and the retail reality in the room.

Brand Strategy & Positioning

Frequently asked

Brand Strategy & Positioning, in plain terms.

How long does a repositioning take?

Eight to fourteen weeks to the position. Rollout across channels runs six months or more depending on retail and packaging.

Do you design logos?

We set the direction and commission or brief the design. Where a brand already has a mark that works, we usually recommend keeping it.

Is research always necessary?

Some form of it, yes. Positioning built on internal assumption is how brands end up describing benefits their customers do not care about.
