The role

Not a graphic designer with a bigger title. Someone who thinks in hooks, narratives, visual devices and business objectives, and can plan a shoot that actually gets made.

Core responsibilities

  • Develop creative concepts for brands, founders, CXOs, campaigns, social platforms, events and integrated marketing initiatives.
  • Build creative directions strategically aligned to the brand's positioning, audience and communication objective.
  • Create compelling narratives and storyboards that make viewers want to continue watching or engaging.
  • Plan shoots end to end: objective, concept, references, shot list, locations, props, talent, styling, production requirements and timelines.
  • Lead or closely coordinate pre-production, production and post-production workflows.
  • Convert abstract ideas into concrete visual treatments, scripts, storyboards, moodboards and execution plans.
  • Work across static, motion, video, campaign and experiential formats rather than operating only as a graphic designer.
  • Review creative output ruthlessly for quality, consistency, storytelling, brand alignment and technical polish.
  • Develop distinctive visual languages for different clients rather than repeating the same aesthetic across accounts.
  • Collaborate with photographers, videographers, editors, designers, influencers, talent, PR teams and account managers.
  • Present concepts clearly and explain the strategic and creative rationale behind them.
  • Maintain a library of references, trends and cultural insight while avoiding trend-chasing without purpose.

Creative and strategic competencies

  • Strong visual storytelling and narrative construction.
  • Excellent understanding of brand identity, personal branding, audience psychology and attention economics.
  • Ability to identify the central idea of a communication and build an execution around it.
  • Strong sense of composition, typography, art direction, pacing, tone and visual consistency.
  • Ability to create concepts distinctive enough to build recognition rather than simply looking good.
  • Strong pre-production planning and an instinct for what can realistically be executed within time and budget.
  • Perfectionist quality control without becoming incapable of shipping work.

Ideal candidate

  • 3+ years in creative design, art direction, content production, advertising, branding or an adjacent field is preferred.
  • Portfolio must demonstrate original thinking, not just software proficiency.
  • Strong candidates may come from advertising agencies, creative studios, production houses, digital agencies, content teams or brand-side creative roles.
  • Must be comfortable being challenged on ideas and improving them through iteration.
  • Should naturally think in terms of hooks, narratives, visual devices, audience response and business objectives.

How success is measured

  • Creative work that is strategically relevant, visually differentiated and platform-appropriate.
  • Strong concepts that can be translated into executable production plans.
  • Reduction in avoidable revisions through better planning and quality control.
  • Ability to independently own a campaign or content series from concept to delivery.
  • Consistently high creative standards across multiple client categories and personalities.

Expected in every role at Influence

  • Ownership. Take responsibility from brief to final output, including follow-ups and corrections.
  • Output orientation. Work against clear deliverables, deadlines, quality standards and client expectations.
  • Speed with judgement. Move quickly without compromising brand quality or creating avoidable errors.
  • Attention to detail. Catch inconsistencies in design, copy, video, communication, timelines and execution before delivery.
  • Adaptability. Work across different industries, personalities, brands, formats and campaign requirements.
  • Collaboration. Coordinate effectively with founders, brand managers, PR teams, designers, creators, clients and vendors.
  • Professional discipline. Maintain punctuality, confidentiality, responsiveness and reliable follow-through.
  • Learning velocity. Keep up with evolving platforms, formats, tools, creator ecosystems and AI-enabled workflows.
